Jane Reynolds's Weekly Blog – 28th October 2012

The clocks went back last night and Winter feels to have come back overnight too, so it was a very chilly Sunrise Over Swindon this morning.

Oh, I had such high hopes for this weekend. I HAVE to do my tax return (even though I don’t earn enough to even pay any tax right now) so the only goal I had was to get this week’s blog posted on Sunday afternoon.

I’d done some work on it on Friday so was well ahead of the game, but when I got to my office early on Saturday morning I found that my ethernet connection wasn’t working.

It took me half an hour to finally work that out for definite and then my brother rang to discuss a problem. That took another half an hour, and the second that call finished my mobile rang again and it was my friend saying that she’d come for a coffee and was stood outside the building!

By the time she’d left that was two hours lost, so I did as much as I could by writing the text in ‘Word’ and then left at 2.30 to continue working at home. (I’d planned to go to the gym, but that went out of the window.) As I was leaving – unbelievably – the Centre’s manager was pulling in to the carpark.

I’d assumed he’d got the message I’d left on his voicemail, and that although he doesn’t work weekends had decided to come and ‘sort it’ for me. That wasn’t why he was there, but he said he’d reboot it and that it would definitely be working for me on Sunday.

I worked at home until 7.30 pm – taking half of the photos off my TV – then was too tired to cook so ate some totally disgusting fast food.

I was up at 6.00 on Sunday morning to do the rest of the photos then went to my office and, yes, you’ve guessed it … it wasn’t working, so I had to come all the way back again. I’ve spent the rest of today getting one interruption after another; feeling totally stressed, and the whole thing’s taken twice as long as it would normally do because I just can’t concentrate properly here.

Fed up? Don’t ask!

Still. Could be worse. I just HAVE to do my tax return though. I’ve stupidly let it get out of hand and it’s going to be such a huge task that I’m literally dreading it – not least because I’ve got to do a load of printing and my new Kodak printer (which I bought in the Spring to replace my Hewlett Packard one which was costing me a fortune in ink cartridges) doesn’t work properly and is eating ink cartridges.

It’s as bad as the HP one was. Printers have to be one of THE biggest ripoffs ever invented.

I’ve done a small paid job this week – ‘polishing up’ a company’s website, and I have a little Corrie Coup (unpaid – as usual!) to tell you about next week, but I’m going to have to stop now if I hope to stand a cat in hell’s chance of getting this blog out today.

Let’s hope I can breathe a sigh of relief by this time next week; tax done and dusted. Fingers crossed!

PS ‘Jane’s Soapy Corners’ have gone digital. Simply download the Podcasts App onto your iPhone or iPad then search for Tellyspy and they’re all there.

This form of broadcasting is still quite new for me – and very different to my usual radio stuff as I’m sat in the back bedroom at my dad’s house with my Mac and a more-or-less blank screen for half an hour, simply ‘talking to myself’, in effect.

It’s taken a bit of getting used to, but we’re finding our feet with the format and (apart from when Skype suddenly just ‘drops off’) it’s improving by the week!

‘Jane’s Soapy Corners’: 6.00-6.30 pm every Wednesday night on Tellyspy.

There’s also my regular Thursday radio shows (10.45-11.15 am) and Friday (4.00-5.00 pm) on Swindon 1055.com, where I give my Harry-Hill-ish observations and opinions on all the best (and more importantly, the worst) bits of what’s going on in Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders.

Right. Have a good week everyone and I’ll see you back here next week.
