Happy New Year to you all.
I’d intended to put out a full Soapy Corner blog this week but have barely even found a minute to write this, and can only apologise to anyone who might have been looking forward to an update.
My last full-time job was nine years spent as a Housekeeper/nanny/cook etc, where I was on the go from 7.00 am until late (often seven days a week), and this last four weeks have felt very reminiscent of that.
This last week especially has flown by in a whirl of visitors, ringing phones and being ‘on call’ to my father for almost the entire time. It’s physically and mentally draining, and as he gets weaker and more poorly by the day it’s getting harder for us all to be able to pretend to be ‘cheerful’ when we’re with him.
How people care for an elderly/sick relative for years I’ll never know. I’m already emotionally strained (and am extremely concerned at how little time I have to do any of my own work), but he’s getting a proper hospital bed delivered tomorrow and I’ve got the back room downstairs all ready for him now, which should (hopefully) ease things a lot.
He’ll be able to watch a proper/large TV; look out over the garden, sit up better (as the bed’s electric), and there’ll be plenty of room for visitors to sit down in comfort too. I’ll also be able to sit in there with my mac and work some of the time, then jump up and do all the housework etc when he’s asleep!
The trouble now though, is that Christmas is officially over and I’m going to be back having to do my cleaning/ironing and all my radio stuff this week so it’s going to take quite a bit of jiggling with my two brothers and their partners to keep everything going, but I’m sure we’ll sort it out somehow!
I’ll be doing my Soapy Spot on Alastair Greener’s Big Mid-morning show from 10.45-11.15 on Thursday and co-presenting my TGI Friday show with Paul Dawkins from 4.00-5.00 pm on Friday; both on Swindon 1055.com, and ‘Jane’s Soapy Corners’ are LIVE as usual from 6.00-6.30 pm every Wednesday night on Tellyspy.

Apologies for this excuse for a blog, but I’ve told my family that I simply HAVE to get a proper post out next week and am absolutely determined to deliver a right good dose of Soapy Corners for you, as I haven’t spent two years working seven days a week on my blogging just to throw it all away …
